Connecting the Canal
A 71-Mile Walking Adventure on the High Line Canal! Winter 2017-8 Edition
At 71 miles long, the High Line Canal is one of the longest continuous urban trails in the country, twisting through the most populated area of Colorado while crossing a diverse mosaic of communities and nature. The Canal originates at Waterton Canyon in Douglas County and runs to Green Valley Ranch in Northeast Denver, falling within one mile of more than 350,000 residents. This winter, join us as we walk the entire trail in an effort to raise awareness of this wonderful community resource.
In partnership with the High Line Canal Conservancy, Walk2Connect Walking Movement Leaders will lead 14 community walks (plus one built-in weather days) along the High Line Canal from November to March on Sundays, Saturdays and Tuesdays, all starting at 9 am over this time period. Walking through all five character zones, we’ll learn the Canal’s history and its importance to Denver over time.
Join us for all segments or just one! Ranging from 5-8 miles, these segments allow you to continuously walk close to 98% of the Canal this winter and spring. We’ll walk at a pleasant 2-3 mph, creating wonderful connection and conversation. All participants who complete all 14 segments by the last scheduled segment will receive a branded tag from the High Line Canal Conservancy signifying the completion of the entire Canal trail.
