An event every week that begins at 7:00am on Friday, repeating indefinitely
TYPE: STSP Weekly | PACE: Conversational | TERRAIN: Flat, Partial Pavement, Natural | DISTANCE: Approx. 2-3 mi |
Walk Description: It’s Friday Morning and an awesome time to make new friends while getting the mind, body and spirit moving. Please join us on an awesome morning walk through the natural parkland in and around Belmar Park. This will be a community wellness walk at a conversational pace with an emphasis on easy movement and pleasant company!
Walk Leader(s): Currently, leadership of this walk is being shared among three awesome walk leaders: Teri Sewell, Stephanie White, and Lee Barnhill.
Schedule & Meeting Location: We will start at the trailhead leading from the parking lot into the park, just to the south of the library entrance and at the far south end of the library parking lot. Belmar Park is near the heart of Lakewood, Colorado by the Belmar Commons and Kountze Lake. The 127 acre natural parkland of Belmar Park wraps around Lakewood Heritage Center and the 20th Century Museum and offers walking paths and access to Weir Gulch. This park is left in a self maintaining natural state with prairie grasses, cattails, purple thistle and willows. We will walk different paths. All walks will end at the Belmar Library.
-There is plenty of parking in the library’s parking lot.
-Dog Friendly! We will be doing a loop going back to our starting location. Please be sure you are confident your dog can handle 2-3 miles and cooler temps when walking in various seasons and insure that your dog is calm, well behaved and MUST stay leashed. Please use a 6ft or shorter leash. No retractable leashes. Bring baggies. They also must be trained socially with people and other dogs.
-This walk is early in the morning and the library is not open for bathroom breaks. Please use the restroom before joining us.
-Consider bringing: Comfortable socks & shoes (pref. NON cotton socks!), light backpack w/water and snack foods (almonds, bars, fruit), gloves, scarf, beanie, camera, sunglasses & sunscreen (and hat if you wear them), and bring several (thinner) layers depending on anticipated temperature and light rain gear just in case.
