Boulder Black History Walk
January 21 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pmFree
TYPE: Program | PACE: Conversational/Exploratory | TERRAIN: Sidewalks | DISTANCE: Approx. 3-4 miles
Walk Description: Join Walk2Connect leader, Darcy Kitching, and me, Kriste Peoples, for a Boulder Black History Walk around town. I’ll be your guest host for this urban hike, and I’m excited to share some little known stories of black people who called Boulder home more than a century ago. We’ll talk about the cultural climate of the time and the people who lived and worked in the spaces we’ll be visiting together. Our group will meet at 10am on the Pearl Street Mall, in front of the Boulder Bookstore, and we’ll will take a leisurely walk through town from there. Our distance covered will be roughly 3-4 miles total. We’ll return to the Boulder Book Store at or near noon with a wealth of new curiosity and insights about a compelling facet of Boulder’s history!
Schedule, Planning and Nearby Transit: We’ll start and end at the Boulder Bookstore on Pearl Street. Park in the garage at 1123 Spruce Street or other nearby lots, or take the Skip bus down Broadway to meet us.
Walking Movement Leader and Guest Host: Darcy Kitching is a member-owner of the Walk2Connect Co-op and the Walk2Connect Boulder program director. Kriste Peoples is a writer, speaker, trail runner, founder of the Black Women’s Alliance of Denver, and producer at Sounds True.
