Connecting the Canal, Segment 9–Eisenhower Park to Cherry Creek (W&T)

SEGMENT 9 Eisenhower Park to Cherry Creek (W&T)

TYPE: W&T | PACE: Conversational (2-3mph) |TERRAIN: Lots of sidewalk, small hills, dirt/pebble trail | DIFFICULTY: Moderate| DISTANCE: Approx. 6.74 miles

Walk Description: In partnership with the High Line Canal Conservancy, we will walk the entire High Line Canal, one segment at a time, covering most of the 71-mile trail. Check out our overview page here for more information on all of our walking events.

Segment 9 of 14 Miles 37-44. On this segment, you’ll enjoy the twists and turns of the Canal and be amazed where we are when we finish this segment.  We’ll go under I-25, pass Bible Park, and make our way into bustling Cherry Creek.

Walking Movement Leader: Chris Englert is a long-time Walking Movement Leader, founding business partner of Walk2Connect Co-op, and Head Motivator of our partner organization, EatWalkLearn. She says “I love using walking as a platform to connect and look forward to walking with you. Please come. If there are barriers, we’ll overcome them together!”

Meeting Location, Parking, and Planning: Park at 9200 Cherry Creek S Dr, Denver, CO 80231.  This parking area is the end of the walk for this segment.We will meet at the end of the segment, park, and then carpool to the beginning of the segment. Please be parked and ready to walk at 8:45 am. We will leave no later than 9:05 to the starting destination. We will walk the segment together. At the end of the walk, we will carpool back to the beginning of the segment to return people to their cars. If you are not comfortable carpooling, please make other arrangements to meet us at the start of the walk and for you to depart the walk. Alternatively, you can take a Lyft. If you use this link and you’re a new Lyft user, you get a credit toward your first ride. If you have questions about how parking/carpooling/transit will work, please contact Chris.

Please note that the sun starts setting earlier, and we may be walking in the dark when we finish. You may want to bring head lamps or flash lights (or use your phone’s flashlight.)

Welcome Waivers: Please fill out the online “Welcome Waiver” or download, print, sign, and turn in a hard copy if this will be your first Walk2Connect walking experience in the past year.

Bring: At least 2 bottles of water, dinner, appropriate clothing for the weather, sunscreen, hat, and snacks. We may also see mountain goats, so bring your binoculars and camera.

Trip Notes:

– For the walkers who complete all 14 segments of the Connecting the Canal event series according to the official schedule will receive a token from the High Line Canal Conservancy.

-We will take breaks along the way as we find shade or welcoming spots.

-Wear comfortable shoes and clothing, and you may also want to include appropriate outerwear, hats, and gloves to accommodate for the weather.

Cancellation Policy: We only cancel in extreme weather conditions on our path, such as ice, hail, or lightening. Check Meetup or text the walk leader for the most up-to-date conditions.
