September 20 @ 7:30 am - 12:00 pmFree
TYPE: W&T | PACE: 3 mph |TERRAIN: Dirt/pebble trail; small hills; climb down into the canal and back up in order to cross Santa Fe; cross one set of railroad tracks | DIFFICULTY: Moderate| DISTANCE: Approx. 6.25 miles (5 miles along the canal trail and 1 mile+ backtrack to the cars parked at the trailhead)
Walk Description: In partnership with the High Line Canal Conservancy, we will walk the entire High Line Canal, one segment at a time, covering most of the 71-mile trail. Check out our overview page here for the entire schedule.
Segment 4 of 14, Miles 15-10 | Fly’n B Highlands Ranch: On this segment, we’ll come to the first big break in the trail, where the Canal cannot be walked between miles 10 and 8. We will pick up the trail at Fly’n B and stop at mile marker 10. This segment of the trail traverses quite a variety of areas, including Fly’n B Ranch, crossing Santa Fe, and ambling through Highlands Ranch. We’ll be walking in the Rolling Foothills Zone.
Walk Leader: Chris Englert is a long-time Walking Movement Leader, Member-Owner of Walk2Connect, and author of Best Urban Hikes: Denver and Walking Denver’s Neighborhoods. Follow her at www.denverbyfoot.com, and at @denverbyfoot on social media. You can reach her at 303 507 7280 or [email protected]
Meeting Location: Due to the recent removal of a vintage bridge across the canal near Mile Marker 10, we will park at a small trailhead at the end of W Brandon Drive, near Pioneer Landscape Center – 8189 W Brandon Dr, Littleton, 80125. At the end of W Brandon Drive, drive across the narrow bridge, then turn right to park along the trailhead along the High Line Canal Trail just to the east of the landscape center. Please do not park in the landscape center lot. Be sure to read your Final Details email for possible changes to these parking instructions!
We will meet here at the end of the segment and then carpool to the beginning of the segment. Please be parked and ready to walk at 7:20 am. We will leave no later than 7:35 am to carpool to the starting destination.
Carpool to Here: We will organize into carpools and then drive to the beginning of the segment, Fly’n B Ranch (2910 Plaza Drive, Highlands Ranch). At the end of the walk, we will arrange carpools back to the beginning of the segment to return people to their cars.
Teamwork: In order for us to have a great time, enjoy the segment, and get everyone to the beginning and ends, we must work as a team. Patience, guidance and erring on the side of positivity are crucial for a successful and joyful segment.
Restrooms: There is a vault toilet at Fly’n B Park.
Driving Liability: If you are not comfortable carpooling, please make other arrangements to meet us at the start of the walk and for you to depart the walk. Alternatively, you can take a Lyft. If you use this link and you’re a new Lyft user, you get a credit toward your first ride. If you have questions about how parking/carpooling/transit will work, please contact your walking movement leader. If you choose to drive, please remember that you must have liability insurance and you assume all risks as a driver or passenger. If asked, please be prepared to show your proof of insurance.
Welcome Waivers: Please fill out the online “Welcome Waiver” or download, print, sign, and turn in a hard copy. You only need to do this once a year with Walk2Connect.
Final Details: You will receive final details to your email address from Lisa Alonge about this segment on the Wednesday before we are scheduled to walk. Refer to this final details email for concluding comments about weather, parking, and conditions. If you do not receive this email by 9 pm the Wednesday before the walk, contact Lisa via text to 720 339 8766 or her email address [email protected]

Dogs: Dogs are welcome on 6-foot leashes. No retractable leashes. Please be sure to bring baggies and water for your dog and consider the carpooling scenarios if you bring your dog with you.
Tokens: Walkers who complete all 14 segments of the Connecting the Canal event series according to the official schedule will receive a High Line Canal token. You can “make up” up to two segments with one of our volunteer Walking Movement Leaders.
What to bring: Wear comfortable shoes and clothing, bring 2 liters of water, and you may also want to include appropriate outerwear, hat, and sunscreen.
