Connecting the Canal -Segment 1 Waterton Canyon High Line Canal (W&T)

Segment 1: Waterton Canyon High Line Canal
TYPE: W&T | PACE: 3 mph| TERRAIN: dirt trail with some elevation gain | DISTANCE: Approx. 4 mi
Segment 1 of 14, Mile 2 – 0 – 2. As we finish our southerly trek on the High Line Canal Connecting the Canal series, in partnership with the High Line Canal Conservancy, we will walk from Waterton Canyon Trailhead parking lot to the High Line Canal Diversion Structure at mile zero of the High Line Canal. We will walk approx 2 miles into the Canyon. Staff members from the Conservancy will be on hand to celebrate your accomplishment! Then walk 2 miles back, for a total of 4+ miles through the Wild Canyon Zone. In addition, we hope to secure a tour of the historic Kassler Center with Denver Water’s recreation ranger.

Meeting Location: Park at Waterton Canyon Trailhead 11300 Waterton Road Littleton. There is no carpooling this segment. Please be parked and ready to walk at 7:20 am. We will leave no later than 7:35 am to start our journey up the canyon.
Teamwork: In order for us to have a great time, enjoy the segment, and get everyone to the beginning and end, we must work as a team. Patience, guidance and erring on the side of positivity are crucial for a successful and joyful segment.
Restrooms: There are vault toilets at the trailhead and at the Black Bear Rest Area, near the diversion dam.
Welcome Waivers: Please fill out the online “Welcome Waiver” or download, print, sign, and turn in a hard copy. You only need to do this once a year with Walk2Connect.
Final Details: You will receive final details to your email address from Lisa Alonge about this segment on the Wednesday before we are scheduled to walk. Refer to this final details email for concluding comments about weather, parking, and conditions. RSVP: You must sign up to walk. Please use the RSVP feature below. Visit our main page here to sign-for additional segments. Your RSVP is important and will guide our communication about changes, parking, and other details. If you are walking with someone else, please have that person also sign up so that we have their email address and can track effectively.
Dogs: Dogs are NOT ALLOWED in Waterton Canyon, for the safety of the wildlife.
Tokens: The walkers who complete all 14 segments of the Connecting the Canal event series according to the official schedule will receive a High Line Canal token. You can “make up” up to two segments with one of our volunteer Walking Movement Leaders.
What to bring: Wear comfortable shoes and clothing, bring 2 liters of water, and you may also want to include appropriate outerwear, hat, and sunscreen.
Weather: We will walk in all weather conditions except ice and lightning. Those who registered will be notified by 9pm the night before if the walk is canceled. No news is good news.
Cancellation Policy: We only cancel in extreme weather conditions on our path, such as ice, hail, or lightning.
