#OptOutside: Just A Walk In The Park(s)
November 27, 2015 @ 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm
TYPE: Walk & Talk | PACE: Conversational | TERRAIN: Sidewalks & Park Paths | DISTANCE: 6 Miles
Two parks, actually: Cheesman and Washington. What better way to follow REI’s example and #OptOutside to spend Black Friday afternoon than a leisurely stroll through two fabulous urban parks? Your friends, family, even your dog will enjoy [email protected], savoring the sights, sounds, and smells of a late autumn afternoon in the great outdoors. Doesn’t that beat shopping?
Your Walk Leader is Dawn Kirkwood who will be joined by Jonathon Stalls and Nicole Huguenin. Dawn is a Walking Movement Leader and Walk2Connect Project Coordinator who leads a weekly STSP walk through Capitol Hill on Thursdays at 7am. She also leads the occasional Art & Architecture program walk, and participates in as many W2C walks as possible.
Parking/MeetingSpot/Schedule: Parking can be found on the inside loop of Cheesman at the 12th & Humboldt entrance. The #10 bus is also accessible. We’ll meet at the #10 bus stop on 12th at the Humboldt entrance of Cheesman, wander south to Wash Park, where we’ll walk around Smith Lake before heading back north, skirting the Denver Country Club, and returning to Cheesman. This will be a leisurely stroll at a conversational pace with no particular agenda beyond enjoying our beautiful surroundings and each other.
Weather: This is a rain or shine event, within reason. If the weather is really nasty and we decide to cancel, we’ll notify everyone by email/meetup message at least an hour in advance of the scheduled start time. You can check the status of the walk by texting Dawn 913-908-3670.
Trip Notes: This is family and dog friendly walk. Small kids in strollers OK. It’s late autumn, so the weather may be cold and changeable; dress accordingly, preferably in layers. Wear comfy walking shoes and non-cotton socks. Bring water, sunglasses, hats, gloves, camera. Restrooms may be a challenge.
