Walking for Transportation Walkabout in Boulder
March 18 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pmFree
TYPE: Program | PACE: Exploratory/Gentle | TERRAIN: Sidewalks | DISTANCE: Approx. 1 mile |
Walk Description: Boulder is a wonderful place to walk, and while many of us love to walk for exercise and recreation, some members of our community go further and walk everywhere! Join us on this special walkabout with GO Boulder, led by Maria Guadalupe Martinez – a member of our community who exclusively walks, bikes and takes the bus with her four children (ranging in age from 4 to 16). Maria Guadalupe is an active transportation expert who will share her story of walking for transportation on her daily route from Columbine Elementary School to her neighborhood near the North Boulder Recreation Center. After the 1-mile walk, we will gather in the community room in Maria Guadalupe’s neighborhood for more conversation and refreshments.
Optional: Join Maria Guadalupe and friends at the final session of our winter 8-week Caminatas Fitness session with the City of Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks Department at Wonderland Lake at 12:30 pm. Get in your walking workout until 2 pm, then stick around for snacks and conversation before we head over to Columbine together.
Walking Movement Leaders: Maria Guadalupe Martinez became a Walking Movement Leader in 2018. Angela Ortiz is a Spanish language interpreter and Walking Movement Leader active in Denver and Boulder. Darcy Kitching is a founding co-owner of the Walk2Connect Cooperative and facilitates the Boulder Walks program, organized in cooperation with GO Boulder.
Schedule, Planning and Transit: We will meet outside the front entrance of Columbine Elementary School, off of Repplier St. Take the 204 bus from downtown Boulder up 19th Street to the Floral Street stop, or park along the street. We will end our walk near the North Boulder Recreation Center.
