"If you can't fly, then run. If you can't run, then walk. If you can't walk, then crawl. But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward." Martin Luther King Jr.
David Whyte, writer and poet, reaches deep into our shared human experience to speak on the often overused concept of "gratitude." In the month of November, we can be overwhelmed with the shoulds of gratitude and sometimes feel our words become overused and stale. David Whyte offers us a fresh way to explore gratitude:
"Gratitude is not a passive response to something we have been given, gratitude arises from paying attention, from being awake in the presence of everything that lives within and without us. Gratitude is not necessarily something that is shown after an event, it is the deep, a priori state of attention that shows we understand and are equal to the gifted nature of life."
As November comes to a close, bringing in longer nights and shorter days, cold fronts and frozen winds, snowy sidewalks and icy streets, let's walk together and "pay attention" to "everything that lives." Let's walk and practice active gratitude "being awake" and intentional with our steps and our gaze. Let's move with each other and through our neighborhoods by foot accepting the invitation to "inhabit a living world." Let's take note of the faces, the voices, the laughter, the colors, the wind, and the wintry landscape around us. As we walk, let us call to mind our loved ones and with each step pay attention, be present, and let gratitude unfold when "our sense of presence meets all other presences."
Let's inspire each other! Take photos of your what wakes you up, draws your attention and presence, and share them here:

Colorado Gives Day!
We are excited to partner with Trailhead Institute, our fiscal agents, to accept tax-deductible donations through Friends of Walk2Connect. December 10 is Colorado Gives Day, a day of giving to your favorite organization (hint, hint....). We value and need your support. Your donation helps pay all the many expenses related to operating Walk2Connect (website, office space, supplies, our many hours) as well as the many FREE walks we offer in our communities. Please be generous to us and help us continue to "create a more human and connected world through walking."
